A 17-year-old boy was shot to death Thursday in a residential section of Mansfield, and a suspect was arrested on Friday, police said.

The victim, who was identified as Julious David Rogers by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, was shot about 4:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Cutting Horse Drive, Mansfield police said.

Detectives who worked through the night to pursue leads on a suspect identified his vehicle and located it at an apartment complex in east Dallas, police said.

The suspect, 21-year-old Elijah Hatton, was taken into custody by Mansfield SWAT officers. He was booked into jail on suspicion of murder.

Police officers were dispatched to the shooting scene for a welfare check. As they approached, people were performing CPR. The victim was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police said the motive and further details about how the shooting happened are under investigation.

A police spokesperson did not immediately answer a question on whether, when officers arrived at the scene, the victim was outdoors, inside a residence, in a vehicle or at another location.

Police said that anyone with details on the killing should call the department at 817-473-0211.
