21-year-old murder suspect arrested in man’s shooting death near Arlington car wash
A 21-year-old man has been arrested and faces a murder charge after authorities in Arlington said he shot and killed Zoin Hodges on Aug. 30, according to a news release from police.
Arlington police said 20-year-old Hodges was shot and killed near a car wash along Brown Boulevard. They’ve arrested Sundall Barnes in his killing. Barnes is being held at the Tarrant County Jail.
Authorities said multiple tips identified someone called “Maxxo,” later identified as Barnes, as the shooter. He was also a suspect in an unrelated theft case from Aug. 13 where surveillance footage documented him breaking into a vehicle and stealing a gun, police said.
Investigators already had warrants for Barnes’ arrest for that vehicle burglary, according to police. He was located on Sept. 7 when officers conducted a traffic stop and found him in the passenger seat of the vehicle. Officers ran his name and confirmed he had active warrants for the theft case and took him into custody. Searching the vehicle, they found the gun that was reported stolen.
Barnes has declined to speak with investigators, requesting an attorney, according to the news release.
Police matched shell casings from a test fire of the weapon that was recovered to those found at the scene were Hodges was killed, according to authorities. Using that information, investigators obtained a warrant for his arrest on the murder charge.
Investigators don’t think the shooting was random but haven’t yet identified a motive, according to police.
Hodges was walking from an apartment complex to a nearby motel where he was staying when the shooting happened.
