Former Flower Mound town council member James Pierson, 82, will spend the rest of his life in prison after being convicted on multiple counts of child sexual abuse Friday.

Pierson served two years on the town council before abruptly resigning in May 2021 weeks before he was arrested and charged with one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child and four counts of indecency with a child, according to court records.

Pierson was sentenced to life for the continuous sexual abuse charge, and 70 years for the four counts of indecency with a child.

He was booked into Denton County Jail on July 27, according to court records.

He will also owe roughly $50,000 in fines, according to court documents.
