A man in a stolen car was arrested Wednesday in White Settlement after running from police in a stolen car and losing control of the vehicle, according to a news release from police.

Police said the man, 39-year-old Michael Grant, drove into White Settlement around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday via Loop 820 around Clifford Street when police vehicle cameras scanned the license plate and identified it as a stolen vehicle. When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver fled, leading police on a high-speed pursuit.

The chase came to an end on South Las Vegas Trail near Gibbs Drive when the driver lost control, left the roadway and crashed into a chain-link fence, according to police.

No other people were injured or property damaged, police said.

The man tried to get away on foot after the crash, but police said in the news release that officers were able to catch him.

Grant faces several charges and is under investigation for multiple armed robberies that happened in White Settlement and Benbrook, according to the news release. Officers found a fake gun and clothing they believe to be associated with recent robberies in the car, which they identified as one stolen from White Settlement days before in the 7600 block of West Freeway.

Grant was on parole for similar charges, according to police.

“This violent felon put several community members and police officers at risk today by fleeing at such high speeds and driving in a reckless manner,” White Settlement Police Chief Chris Cook said. “As a Chief, I saw this dangerous behavior firsthand by joining the pursuit and seeing the crash. We are extremely thankful no innocent community members or officers were hurt by these outrageous decisions made by the suspect.”
