Man fatally shoots mother, sister in Mesquite before killing himself, police say

A man shot and killed his mother and younger sister early Thursday morning in Mesquite before he turned the gun on himself and pulled the trigger, police said.

Ronda Vasquez, 55, and Rayshell Vasquez, 29, were identified by the police department as the mother and daughter. Marcus Vasquez, 32, was identified as the son who allegedly killed them and then killed himself.

Police said in a news release that a woman had called 911 around 6 a.m. to report a man had a handgun inside her home in the 600 block of Little Bend, causing her to run out of the house. She could then hear gunshots coming from inside the home, she told police.

She was later identified as the wife of the suspect, police said.

Responding officers tried to make contact with those who lived inside the house but couldn’t get a response, police said. They forced their way inside and found two people who were dead with gunshot wounds, as well as another person who had been shot but was still alive.

Ronda Vasquez and Marcus Vasquez were pronounced dead, and Rayshell Vasquez was seriously injured, police said. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

Investigators determined “it appears Marcus Vasquez took the lives of Ronda and Rayshell Vasquez before ultimately turning the weapon on himself,” police said.

Police didn’t immediately respond to an email on Friday morning requesting an update.
