Four punches killed man in Fort Worth suburb after fight with teenage son, warrant says
David Beevers punched his 52-year-old father at least four times in the face before the two separated on Aug. 21 in their Saginaw home, according to a warrant.
The father and son had gotten into an argument over a car alarm before the assault, Saginaw police said.
Just over 24 hours later, the older man, Steven Beevers, was found dead in his bedroom.
David Beevers, 18, told detectives that his father never hit him during the fight, according to the warrant obtained by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram this week.
David Beevers was arrested a few days later after officials with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled that Steven Beevers died from blunt-force trauma to his head and his death was a homicide.
David Beevers, who was released from jail on $75,000 bond, was charged with murder on Sept. 4, according to Tarrant County criminal court records.
The warrant written by Saginaw police gave this account of the fatal incident:
At about 1 p.m. on Aug. 21, David Beevers and his father, Steven Beevers, argued over a car alarm. A neighbor had alerted Steven Beevers about the alarm, and he confronted his son.
At some point during their argument, David Beevers hit his father at least four times in the face and head while they were in David Beever’s bedroom. The assault was witnessed by Steven Beever’s mother at the Saginaw home in the 300 block of Parkview Drive.
No one called 911 at that time.
After the two separated, David Beevers left the Saginaw home to go to work and Steven Beevers stayed in his bedroom.
At 9 p.m. on Aug. 21, Steven Beevers’ mother went into his bedroom to check on him, and found him unconscious and breathing, but she believed he was sleeping.
She went back into his room just after 5 p.m. on Aug. 22, and found Steven Beevers unconscious and not breathing. That’s when she called 911.
When they arrived, Saginaw police found a laceration near Steven Beever’s left eye, which was swollen, and bruising around his left ear, according to the warrant. Blood also was found on the floor in the bedroom.
Saginaw police later interviewed David Beevers, who told them that he had assaulted his father, according to the warrant. During the interview with police, a detective asked David Beevers about abrasions on his knuckles and swelling on his right hand.
The warrant stated that David Beevers told Saginaw police he had injured his right hand assaulting his father.
