Father found dead after fight with son over car alarm in Fort Worth suburb, police say
A fight over a car alarm left a 52-year-old Saginaw man dead and his 18-year-old son accused in the slaying, Saginaw police said Wednesday.
The teen was arrested Monday and faces a charge of murder.
The victim has been identified by Saginaw police as Steven James Beevers. He died from blunt-force trauma to his head and his death was ruled a homicide, according to officials with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Saginaw police identified the suspect as David Beevers.
The assault occurred Friday in the 300 block of Parkview Drive, where the father and son lived. No police or an ambulance were called on that day.
But Saginaw police responded to a call of an unresponsive person shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday at that same address.
“He (Steven Beevers) was found unresponsive in a bedroom,” said Saginaw Assistant Police Chief Russell Ragsdale in a telephone interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Wednesday.
Steven Beevers was later pronounced dead at the scene, Saginaw police said.
Police determined that Steven Beevers got into a fight with his 18-year-old son on Friday after a neighbor alerted Steven Beevers about a car alarm going off. The car alarm was on a vehicle that belonged to David Beevers.
A fight ensued after the father confronted his son over the car alarm, police said.
David Beevers is accused of knocking his father down, jumping on top of him and repeatedly punching him in the face.
At some point, David Beevers stopped the assault, police said.
“His (Steven Beevers’) wife asked him if he wanted an ambulance, but he refused any medical treatment,” Ragsdale said. “He went to a bedroom and locked the door.”
On Saturday, Steven Beevers’ wife left him alone in the bedroom, believing he was just resting. But by Saturday afternoon after she had not heard from him, his wife went into the bedroom and found him unconscious, police said.
David Beevers was in the Tarrant County Jail on Wednesday in lieu of $75,000 bond.
