Double shooting on I-20 in Fort Worth leaves woman dead, man injured; traffic delayed
A double shooting on Interstate 20 in Fort Worth early Thursday morning left a woman dead and a man injured, and led to major traffic delays as lanes were closed and nearly 50 police units responded to the scene.
No suspect had been identified as of Thursday morning, Capt. Mark Barthen, a police spokesman, said in an email.
Officers responded to a reported shooting on West I-20 at the South Hulen Street exit around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, according to a police incident report. The caller reportedly stated there was a one-vehicle crash and a man was shot.
Police found the woman and pronounced her dead, Barthen said. A man was shot in the torso, police said, and he was in stable condition.
Police believe the woman and two men were driving westbound in a car and the woman began to think they were being followed by her boyfriend. A short time after that, there were several shots fired, police said.
Barthen said around 9:30 a.m. he had “nothing new to add” as the investigation is ongoing.
Lanes on West I-20 at South Hulen Street were closed Thursday morning for the crash investigation, the Texas Department of Transportation said on Twitter.
About 8:30 a.m., the department tweeted that I-20 had reopened but the westbound ramp to SH 183 remained closed.
Photos from WFAA-TV show several police cars spaced out on the highway with lights flashing as a long line of vehicles wait on an exit ramp.
Almost 50 units responded to the crash through Thursday morning, according to the police call log.
