Man found dead after Fort Worth police respond to shooting call, authorities say

A man was found dead Monday morning near Whitten Street in south Fort Worth, according to authorities.

Fort Worth police responded to a shooting call shortly after 8:30 a.m. in the 5300 block of Whitten St.

A caller reported that someone had been shot and was lying on the ground, according to a police call log.

When they arrived, Fort Worth police found the body of a man next to a driveway.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a MedStar spokesman.

Police confirmed Monday afternoon that the case was a homicide.

Detectives learned that a vehicle had driven by the residence and fired several shots at the home, hitting the victim.

The victim was identified as Eric Alvin Cain, 63, according to officials with the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office. Cain died from a gunshot wound to his head and his death was ruled a homicide.

Fort Worth police have not released further details on the shooting.
