Police employee helps officers capture teen robbery suspects in Fort Worth suburb
The sharp eye of a Grapevine police employee has led to the arrest of two teens accused in a carjacking and a robbery which occurred earlier this week, Grapevine police said.
The employee observed the suspects walking near Ira E. Woods and Mustang Drive in Grapevine on Thursday evening and called Grapevine officers.
One teen was caught after a brief foot pursuit and the other was found hiding under a shed, Grapevine police said. Friday.
A third suspect escaped, but he has been identified, and detectives are working on a warrant.
The names of the suspects were not released Friday pending arraignments.
The suspects arrested Thursday have been taken to the Tarrant County Jail in Fort Worth.
One 17-year-old suspect faces a charge of evading arrest, aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. He also was being held on a Fort Worth warrant for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
The other 17-year-old suspect faces charges of evading arrest and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
The series of reported crimes began Monday when a Lyft driver was robbed at gunpoint.
On Wednesday, a man’s car was stolen and suspects tried to steal his wallet. Surveillance video captured images of the three suspects.
At about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, the Grapevine police employee saw the suspects in a neighborhood.
Grapevine police responded to the scene and as they approached the suspects, the teens ran. One teen was captured after a brief foot chase.
Grapevine police asked for canine assistance from nearby police agencies, but the search was called off after an hour.
While a patrol officer was canvassing the neighborhood for evidence and interviewing neighbors, the officer found the second teen hiding under a shed.
