Police track stolen SUV to Arlington house and find Charlotte, an emotional support dog
A dog that was inside a sport utility vehicle when it was stolen from outside an Arlington pharmacy has been found, police said Wednesday.
The theft occurred about 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the 3400 block of Matlock Road in the parking lot of a Walgreens, Arlington police said.
Taija Horne of Arlington left the SUV’s engine running because the dog, Charlotte, a registered emotional support animal, was inside it. Horne went inside the store.
Seconds later, a thief took the 2017 Subaru Forester with the American Bully inside.
As detectives were following up on leads, they learned the vehicle had built-in technology that could be tracked by GPS, a police spokesman said.
Police traced the vehicle to an address in the 500 block of Valley Mills Drive in Arlington on Wednesday.
When officers arrived, a woman answered the door. The officers explained why they were there and she allowed them to search the home, the spokesman said.
Charlotte was in a crate. The vehicle was in the garage.
The woman told police that a man who stays with her occasionally brought the dog and vehicle to her home and indicated to her that he had purchased them.
Police on Thursday were working to find and arrest the man.
