After missing group with car, man made turn and hit, killed Arlington teen, police say
A man whom police allege drove his car into an Arlington teenager, killing him, arrived outside Bowie High School to fight about a romantic dispute, witnesses said.
After a failed first attempt, Keshawn Sims, 22, intentionally drove toward a group of people and struck Knoah Harlan, 17, on July 27, a witness who avoided being hit told police, according to an affidavit supporting an arrest warrant.
Sims on Monday turned himself into law enforcement authorities and was in custody in Hopkins County. He was booked on suspicion of murder and aggravated assault.
Sims arrived at the school in a Nissan Altima and pulled next to the vehicle in which Harlan and others sat, Sims threatened to kill them, according to a witness account in the affidavit. The group got out of the vehicle.
Sims drove down a road, made a U-turn, drove onto a sidewalk and tried to hit the group of people with whom he had a dispute, according to the affidavit.
He missed and again drove down the road and made a U-turn.
Harlan and his group got back inside their vehicle as Sims sped toward it, but they got out of the car again and tried to get away when it appeared Sims was going to hit it head-on. Sims struck Harlan, who was standing near the front passenger door. A 21-year-old man who was standing at the rear passenger door was also struck and suffered a broken foot.
Sims drove from the scene on Highbank Drive without braking or stopping, according to the affidavit.
