Boy found gun and accidentally shot himself in neck area, Fort Worth authorities say
A 5-year-old boy on Wednesday night found a gun inside a Fort Worth house and accidentally shot himself, police said.
The boy suffered a wound to his neck area and was stable when he arrived at a hospital, said Officer Daniel Segura, a Fort Worth police spokesman.
The boy shot himself about 8:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of East Allen Avenue, police said. He was taken in an ambulance to Cook Children’s Medical Center.
Segura did not respond to questions that asked about the type of gun or whether a crime had occurred. An investigation was ongoing, he said.
Crimes Against Children Unit detectives were investigating.
The boy is the third juvenile shooting victim in Fort Worth this week. On Monday, a 12-year-old and 16-year-old were shot in their legs by an assailant firing from a vehicle in south Fort Worth, police said.
