Police officers shoot man who authorities say drove car at them near Fort Worth
Four Haltom City police officers opened fire on a man who drove his car at them Sunday evening after authorities had responded to a shots-fired call, Haltom City police said.
The man, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth in critical condition. An update on his condition was not available on Monday.
No Haltom City officers were injured in the incident.
As per policy of the department, the officers — who were not identified — were placed on administrative leave.
The Texas Rangers and members of the Tarrant County District Attorney’s law enforcement critical response team are assisting in the investigation.
Haltom City police responded to a shots-fired call about 7:05 p.m. Sunday in the 2300 block of McGuire Street.
As officers arrived in the neighborhood, a black car came around Nina Lane and McGuire Street in Haltom City, police said.
The driver stopped in the middle of the street, got out of his vehicle, yelled at officers and went to the trunk of his car, where he retrieved an item, police said. Haltom City police did not say what that item was.
The driver got back in the car and drove at the Haltom City officers, who fired at the vehicle, police said.
After he was shot, the motorist’s car veered off the street and hit a telephone pole.
