Man accused of igniting RV with person inside arrested after standoff near Fort Worth

A man accused of setting a vehicle on fire with someone in it held authorities at bay for more than three hours Monday night before he was taken into custody.

A deputy with the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office was injured during the arrest, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. He was treated and released from a local hospital.

No other injuries were reported as the person in the burning vehicle escaped.

Tarrant County authorities identified the suspect as William A. Sheid, 37, who lives in south Tarrant County near Burleson.

He was in the Tarrant County Jail on Tuesday facing charges of attempted murder, resisting arrest and assault on a police officer.

Deputies responded to a family dispute about 7 p.m. Monday in the 3500 block of Lucy Trimble Road in south Tarrant County.

Deputies did not release any details on the family dispute.

Authorities also were told that a man had set fire to a recreational vehicle in a driveway.

When they arrived, deputies saw a man in the yard and the vehicle burning. The man, who later was identified as William Sheid, ran into a detached garage and barricaded himself inside, refusing commands to step outside, the sheriff’s office said.

Sheid was reported to have a weapon.

The vehicle continued burning as Sheid remained in the garage.

The Tarrant County Tactical Team responded to the scene, and Sheid was arrested shortly after 10:30 p.m. Monday, the sheriff’s office said.

Area firefighters extinguished the fire once the suspect was taken into custody.
