More than 220 pounds of marijuana seized during traffic stop in Fort Worth area
One man was arrested and Weatherford police seized over 220 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop earlier this week, Weatherford police said.
Investigators also confiscated about $3,500 in cash hidden in a car.
Weatherford police estimated the street value of the marijuana at $90,000.
Weatherford police identified the suspect as Orlando Noel Garza, 34. At various times, he has listed his home as Salida, Colorado; Fort Worth, Burleson and Crowley, according to Tarrant County district clerk, jail and Internet records.
Garza was arrested Tuesday during the traffic stop in Weatherford.
He was released on Wednesday after posting $30,000 bond.
Members of the Weatherford Police Department street crime unit conducted the stop in the 2000 block of Santa Fe Drive in Weatherford.
During the initial contact, officers could smell a “strong odor” of marijuana coming from inside the car.
Once they obtained a search warrant, officers discovered 5- to 6-pound bundles of marijuana in the car.
Garza is expected to be charged with possession of marijuana greater than 50 pounds, but less than 2,000 pounds.
