Man arrested in Fort Worth after exchange of gunfire with police, standoff with SWAT
A man who exchanged gunfire with officers held authorities at bay for a short time Sunday evening inside an apartment with children before he surrendered, police said.
No injuries were reported in the standoff at the El Rancho Escondido Apartments, in the 2800 block of Las Vegas Trail in west Fort Worth.
Police did not release the name of the gunman.
Patrol officers were responding to a call of a person with a weapon shortly after 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the west Fort Worth apartment complex.
A man reportedly fired at least 10 gunshots in front of the apartment complex.
When they arrived, officers confronted two suspects and a foot pursuit ensued. A 22-year-old Fort Worth man was arrested within seconds, and he was in custody on Monday on traffic warrants..
The second suspect fired at an officer and ran into an apartment with children inside, police said.
Members of the department’s SWAT unit were called to the scene and they were able to get the suspect to exit the apartment without incident, police said.
