Two suspects identified in shooting that seriously injured woman near Fort Worth

Two people accused of being involved in the Sunday morning shooting of a 23-year-old woman and then fleeing police before they were arrested in Van Zandt County have been returned to Tarrant County, Haltom City police said Monday.

Haltom City police identified the suspects as Rhoda Jimenez, 42, and Armando Diaz Jr., 37, who were in the North Richland Hills Jail on Monday.

The two face charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest, Haltom City police said.

The suspects were arrested Sunday morning after a long chase that ended in Van Zandt County, which is about 90 miles to the east of Haltom City.

At 4:38 a.m. Sunday, Haltom City officers responded to the 2300 block of Thomas Road for a report of a person with a gun. While en route, officers were told that someone had been shot with a shotgun, police said in a news release.

When police got to the house, they saw a car trying to leave and attempted to stop it. The driver did not pull over and drove away, leading officers on a car chase that ended when the car stopped near Canton.

The driver, Jimenez, and a passenger, Diaz, were arrested without incident, police said.

Officers on Thomas Road found a 23-year-old Hispanic woman with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in serious condition, authorities said.

Detectives were still investigating the shooting on Monday, and they had not released any information on a motive.
