2 arrested after fleeing scene where young woman was shot near Fort Worth, police say
A 23-year-old woman was shot in Haltom City, and two people fleeing the scene led Haltom City police on a car chase before they were arrested near Canton, police said.
At 4:38 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to the 2300 block of Thomas Road for a report of a person with a gun. While en route, officers were told that someone had been shot with a shotgun, police said in a press release.
When police got to the house, they saw a car trying to leave and tried to stop it. The driver did not pull over and drove away, leading officers on a car chase that ended when the car stopped in Van Zandt County near Canton.
The driver, a 42-year-old Hispanic woman, and a passenger, a 37-year-old Hispanic man, were arrested without incident, police said.
Officers on Thomas Road found a 23-year-old Hispanic woman with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital for her injuries, and her condition was not known Sunday afternoon, police said.
Detectives were still investigating the shooting and, as of Sunday, did not know if one of the people in the car was the person who shot the woman.
