Arlington wedding photographer on probation for threatening deputies faces new charge

A wedding photographer accused of threatening deputies and who reportedly had sex with a guest while intoxicated remains on probation for the November 2018 incident near Weatherford.

But her legal problems continue because the 27-year-old Arlington woman has a new assault charge pending in Collin County. Last year, Katherine Leigh Mehta was charged with assault of a family member in Frisco, according to Collin County criminal court records. Details on the case were not available Wednesday, and her trial is pending.

Mehta pleaded guilty in October to two counts of terroristic threat to a public servant — Class A misdemeanor charges — in the 2018 case, which occurred at The Springs Event Venue near Weatherford, according to Parker County court records.

As she sat in the back seat of the patrol car after her arrest in November 2018, Mehta told deputies, “Y’all families will be dead by Christmas. Y’all’s daughters are dead. My dad is going to find out about this, and y’all are (expletive) dead. D-E-A-D,” according to an arrest warrant obtained by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in 2018.

Mehta was sentenced to 18 months of probation on the two charges, 60 days in jail and 100 hours of community service, according to court records.

She also was assessed $842 in fines and court costs. She has paid off her court costs, but she still owes $394 in fines, according to court records.

Mehta and her attorney in the Parker County case, Harmony M. Schuerman of Fort Worth, could not be reached Wednesday for comment.

Mehta must wear an electronic monitor device to determine if she has been consuming alcohol and she must attend anger-management classes.

A public intoxication charge against Mehta was dropped in December, according to Parker County court records.

A Parker County grand jury had indicted her on the two terroristic threat charges in March 2019.

An arrest report obtained by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in 2018 gave this brief account of the incident:

Deputies with the Parker County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about 8 p.m. on Nov. 24, 2018, from The Springs Event Venue in the 400 block of Thompson Road.

A security guard, an off-duty sheriff’s deputy, reported wedding guests had found Mehta having sex with a wedding guest in a room at the venue.

Sheriff Larry Fowler said Mehta was a wedding photographer.

Mehta left the room, walked to a fountain and began to yell, the report states.

She then went to a nearby tree and urinated, according to the warrant.

She was placed in a patrol car, where she reportedly threatened deputies as she was driven to jail.

At the jail, and during a search, a prescription bottle of Alprazolam was found in the pocket of her jacket, the arrest report said. The prescription bottle was in her name. Alprazolam, also known as Xanax, is used to treat anxiety and panic disorders, according to WebMD.

Investigators believed she mixed Alprazolam with alcohol, according to the records.
