Fort Worth woman arrested, faces murder charge in fatal shooting of teen

A Fort Worth woman was arrested Tuesday in connection with the deadly weekend shooting of a teenager, according to jail records.

Cristina Maria Watkins, 29, was in the Tarrant County Jail on Wednesday facing a charge of murder in the shooting death of 18-year-old Lawrence Garcia Jr.

Garcia was shot Sunday evening in Fort Worth and died Monday afternoon at a local hospital.

Police have not released any information on a motive for the shooting, and authorities have released few other details on the case.

Watkins was booked into the Fort Worth Jail at about 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to jail records.

The shooting was reported about 7 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of South Sylvania Avenue.

A resident reported that a man had been shot, according to a police call log.

Several people of interest were detained Sunday, police said.

Watkins had only one previous arrest in Tarrant County, according to Tarrant County criminal court records.

She was sentenced to 14 days in jail in April 2008 for resisting arrest in a Fort Worth case, according to court records.
