Man arrested in Los Angeles in connection with Arlington shooting death, police say

A man was arrested in Los Angeles in connection with the New Year’s Day shooting death of a man in Arlington, police said.

Antonio Garcia, 27, was taken into custody on Friday by the U.S. Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Task Force with the assistance of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, Arlington police said in a news release. Garcia was charged with one count of murder.

He’s accused of shooting and killing Cedric Dawkins, 29, of Arlington early on New Year’s Day. Dawkins was found dead around 1:10 a.m. on Jan. 1 with multiple gunshot wounds inside of his apartment in the 2300 block of Streambed Court, police said.

He was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

Arlington detectives were able to quickly identify Garcia as the suspect, police said, and tracked his whereabouts across the U.S. with the help of federal authorities.

The department will reportedly work to extradite Garcia back to Tarrant County.

Police on Saturday didn’t say what the motivation was behind the shooting of Dawkins. Police initially said he may have been involved in “high-risk activity” but didn’t specify what that was.
