Fort Worth police find no gun or shell casings after woman reported drive-by shooting

Police found no weapon or shell casings Friday morning after a woman reported someone had shot at her and her children as she drove on Long Avenue.

The woman made the report Friday morning, but she was unable to meet with detectives a few hours later regarding the case.

“There is no gunman on the loose,” said Officer Brad Perez, a police department spokesman, in an email.

The woman told police someone had fired at her vehicle about 9 a.m. as she drove down a street with children in her car.

The woman told police she was driving on Long Avenue when a blue Honda with two teens about 17 to 18 years old pulled up beside her, according to a police call log.

She said the passenger pulled out a handgun and fired at her vehicle, according to the report.

The woman drove to Meacham Middle School, where she dropped off the children and called authorities.

She waited for police at Eva and Weber streets.

The woman provided police with a license plate and vehicle description, and authorities later identified the people in the car, Perez said.

Officers located the vehicle, but they didn’t find a weapon. Authorities also could not find any shell casings at the location where the reported shooting occurred.

Detectives continued on Friday to investigate the case.
