Fort Worth man arrested on murder charge after shooting death at home on May Street
A 23-year-old Fort Worth man was in custody Wednesday, accused of being the gunman who shot another man to death at a home on May Street, according to jail records and police.
A weapon was found in the home after the Tuesday morning shooting, police said.
The suspect has been identified as Clifford Morris, who was in the Tarrant County Jail on Wednesday, facing a murder charge.
Authorities have not released the name of the victim, but a relative and several of his friends identified him as 30-year-old Gregg Mitchell of Fort Worth.
Police have not released a motive for the shooting or further details on the killing.
The shooting occurred just after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 2000 block of May Street. Morris was booked into jail just after 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Several neighbors said Tuesday they heard at least three gunshots coming from the May Street home where the victim and several other people lived.
No other people were reported injured in the shooting.
Tawana Ware of Fort Worth said Tuesday she had known the victim for years.
“I just had seen him last night,” Ware said. “Everything seemed fine.”
Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting.
