Man shot to death in Fort Worth home where arguments could be heard, residents say

A man died Tuesday morning from injuries he suffered in a shooting at a home on May Street, authorities said.

The name of the victim has not been released by authorities.

“My brother is dead,” said Corina Lopez on Tuesday morning as she sat in a car near the scene of the shooting. “I don’t know what happened. They called and said there were three shots.”

Lopez and other friends of the victim identified him as 30-year-old Gregg Mitchell of Fort Worth.

The shooting occurred just after 8:30 a.m. in the 2000 block of May Street.

“I saw this girl running out of a house all hysterical,” said a resident on May Street who asked her name not be used for fear of retaliation. “Within minutes, police were here.”

The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Several neighbors said Tuesday they heard at least three gunshots coming from the May Street home where the victim and several other people lived.

No other people were reported injured in the shooting.

Tawana Ware of Fort Worth said Tuesday she had known the victim for years.

“I just had seen him last night,” Ware said. “Everything seemed fine.”

Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting.

Police have not released information about suspects, motive or any other details.

Several residents said Tuesday they had heard arguing coming from the home on several occasions.
