15-year-old charged in Dallas basketball game shooting that injured teen, ISD officer
An 18-year-old was shot and a Dallas ISD officer was injured during a shooting at a high school basketball game Saturday night, Dallas police said.
Dallas police identified three people as persons of interest after the shooting at 9:10 p.m. at the Ellis Davis Field House at 9191 South Polk Street in Dallas.
On Sunday afternoon, a 15-year-old turned himself into Dallas police and said he was the one who shot the 18-year-old, police said. He was charged with aggravated assault. The two other persons of interest were identified, are also juveniles and will not be charged.
The teenager was shot in the chest; he underwent surgery and was in critical condition early Sunday morning, Star-Telegram media partner WFAA reported. The ISD officer was hit by shrapnel and did not have life-threatening injuries.
At the game, which was between South Oak Cliff and Kimball high schools, a physical altercation proceeded the gunfire, the Dallas Morning News reported.
