Fort Worth man reported another driver hit his vehicle. Police say he fired shots.
Jimmie Simmons of Fort Worth called police Sunday and reported someone had driven into the back of his vehicle three times before driving away.
But Simmons was in jail Tuesday, accused of firing several shots at a 45-year-old motorist during a road rage incident on an Interstate 35W service road.
The driver was injured by glass shards during the shooting, Fort Worth police said.
Simmons was arrested shortly after the alleged shooting Sunday evening and remained in the Tarrant County Jail on Tuesday in lieu of $10,000 bail. He’s charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The 45-year-old Fort Worth resident told police he was driving on the highway when he saw another motorist driving erratically and having “road rage” issues with other vehicles near him. That other motorist was later identified as Simmons, 23, of Fort Worth.
Simmons and the other driver exited the highway, but at some point, Simmons is accused of “brake-checking” which caused a collision, police said.
Simmons is accused of getting out of his vehicle and firing shots at the other driver’s vehicle, striking the windshield.
Simmons got back in his vehicle and drove away, police said. He later called police to report a hit-and-run.
But responding patrol officers spoke to the other motorist and gathered evidence in the incident. Shortly afterward, Simmons was taken into custody.
