Man found dead at Motel 6 in Fort Worth following shooting, police say
A man was found shot to death outside of a Motel 6 in Fort Worth early Tuesday morning, police said.
The man who was killed was identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as Cliffton Brashad Coffey, 21, of Tyler. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police didn’t announce any arrests or suspects in connection with the homicide.
Officers were dispatched to the Motel 6 in the 2400 block of Scott Avenue around 3:20 a.m. Tuesday, according to a police call log. More than 15 police units responded to the scene.
The call log indicates the reporting party described the man as lying on the ground.
Beverly Dabney, who has lived in the motel with her 28-year-old son since June, got back from her job in Arlington around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. She saw lights, an ambulance and police cars in the parking lot in the back of the motel, where she normally parks, she said. Police weren’t letting people through.
She could see officers escorting two men in handcuffs, she said.
She “started panicking” that her son might be the victim, she said, until she found him back in their apartment. He had slept through all the commotion.
“We’re leaving because of this,” she said. “That could’ve been me standing there and got shot.”
Homicide detectives are investigating the motive for the shooting.
Police said they won’t be releasing any additional details at this time.
