Man shoots at vehicle in Arlington Costco parking lot on Black Friday, police say

A man fired at a vehicle in the parking lot of an Arlington Costco on Black Friday that was occupied by two men he had allegedly seen breaking into his pickup truck before one of them displayed a weapon, police said.

The department doesn’t really “have a clear picture yet” of the incident but is conducting an investigation, according to Lt. Christopher Cook, a police spokesman. No one was shot “to our knowledge,” police said, and no charges have been filed at this time.

Officers responded around 10:05 a.m. Friday to a reported shooting at the Costco located at the intersection of Arbrook Boulevard and Matlock Road, police said. It appears two men were trying to break into a pickup truck, police said, when the man who owns the truck and his friend emerged from the store. They reportedly confronted the suspects.

One of the suspects pulled out a weapon, which the victim thought was a handgun, police said. He then pulled out his own handgun that he legally possesses and fired multiple rounds toward the vehicle.

The suspects were able to get away and haven’t been located, police said. A toolbox was missing from inside the truck.

It’s unclear, police said, if the suspect’s alleged handgun was real or fake.
