Hotel standoff suspect was there with 2 guns, 2 kids and his wife, documents say
A man suspected of robbing at least five banks in Fort Worth and Central Texas was arrested after a standoff at a hotel in Benbrook last week.
Police at the time released few details about what happened on Friday, but court documents filed in a federal case against the suspect’s wife provide more information.
Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation were looking for Austin Silvey, who is accused of robbing BBVA Compass Bank at 4480 Bryant Irvin Road on Nov. 23. Silvey was identified by a fingerprint left behind on a note, the document says.
They received information that Silvey, along with his wife, Cristela Silvey, were at the Days Inn at 590 Winscott Road in Benbrook on Friday afternoon.
Silvey walked outside as several agents stood in the motel parking lot working on an arrest plan. As the agents approached him, Silvey pulled out a silver pistol and ran around the building. The three agents chased him but lost sight of him.
Minutes later, Cristela Silvey came out of the motel with two small children. She was detained and told officers that Silvey had jumped over a fence.
With help from the Texas Department of Public Safety and Fort Worth Police Department, a perimeter was set up around the hotel.
As police searched outside the hotel, they received surveillance video from inside that showed Silvey went back into the hotel room with his wife and two children before they went outside to talk to agents, the document says.
Cristela Silvey was arrested and charged with making a false statement to the FBI.
Silvey barricaded himself inside the motel, which was evacuated as police tried to make contact with him. The standoff ended at about 10 p.m. when Silvey was arrested without further incident. He had a pistol and long gun in the room, documents say.
There have been no federal charges filed against him as of Monday afternoon.
