Father shoots, kills mother in front of 3 kids on Thanksgiving, Lewisville police say

A Lewisville mother of three was fatally shot by the father of her children while the children watched on Thanksgiving morning, Lewisville police said.
Capt. Dan Rochelle of the Lewisville Police Department said officers were sent to the Colonial Village at Oak Bend apartment complex in the 100 block of East Round Grove Road on an unknown call just after 11 a.m.
When officers and paramedics arrived, they found a woman dead inside an apartment and a man with a gunshot wound in the breezeway, Rochelle said. That man was taken to a hospital and is being transferred to a trauma center for treatment as of 1:30 p.m.
Rochelle said the man, who was armed with a pistol, showed up at the woman’s apartment and began to bang on the door. When he wasn’t let in, Rochelle said he kicked the door down and fatally shot the woman.
The man did not live at the apartment, Rochelle said.
Rochelle said the oldest child is 9, but the exact ages of the two younger siblings weren’t immediately known.
Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV identified the woman as Kishana Jeffers, 30, and the man as Daryl Stegall, 32.
The children were witnesses to both shootings. The Children’s Advocacy Center for Denton County and members of Child Protective Services were sent to the apartment, Rochelle said.
