Colleyville is gearing up to celebrate Independence Day with its Stars and Guitars show on June 26 at Colleyville City Hall. The event will feature a concert, food trucks and fireworks.

And this year, the event will also celebrate the grand opening of a Heroes Park dedicated to honoring local veterans.

What is Heroes Park?

In April, Mayor Bobby Lindamood told the Star-Telegram the project honoring past and present veterans was important not just to him, but to the entire community.

At least 193 veterans will be recognized at the park’s grand opening, but the park is expected to have around 430 spots with room to grow if more space is needed down the road.

“It’s a big deal to not only honor our community heroes, but our heroes abroad that have served in the military that are originally from Colleyville,” Lindamood said.

A citizens’ committee and the city worked together to see what design ideas should be added, and toured other memorials to gather inspiration and ensure each military branch was represented.

The Heroes Park Project is almost finished, and 193 veterans will be inducted at Colleyvilles Stars and Guitars event on June 26.

Some of the design elements include flags for the different branches, a bronze sculpture, an eternal flame, a sculpture with lighting that mimics a flame and other aspects of the park design.

“We wanted people to be able to come out and enjoy community events,” Lindamood said. “It’s got a two-sided stage on it ... it’s the perfect park, really and truly.”

Cuntry music singer and veteran Craig Morgan will be on that stage during the Stars and Guitars event. Some of Morgan’s hit songs include “Redneck Yacht Club,” “Almost Home,” “International Harvester,” “Soldier,” “That’s What I Love About Sunday,” and “The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost.”

All the tables have been sold out since May, but there is free lawn seating available.

The official opening of the park and induction of heroes starts at 7:30 p.m. on June 26, followed by the concert at 8 p.m. The night wraps up with a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.

Event goers can start setting up their chairs and blankets as early as 2:00 p.m.
