Ex-principal accused of coercing minor will stay in federal custody
A former elementary school principal was ordered Thursday to remain in federal custody on a charge of coercion or enticement of a minor.
Oscar Figueroa, 46, was indicted by a federal grand jury Wednesday on the federal charge and faces 10 years to life in prison and up to a $250,000 fine.
Figueroa pleaded not guilty at a detention hearing Thursday, according to court records. He resigned this week as principal of Viridian Elementary School, part of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford district.
He had been on administrative leave since July 7, when Frisco police arrested him at a mall during a sting. He was accused of trying to solicit children online for sex.
Figueroa was actually chatting with undercover detectives, police say.
