13-year-old girl in critical condition ID’d as Euless hit-and-run victim; driver at large
A 13-year-old girl has been identified as the victim of a hit-and-run Saturday in Euless. She remains in critical condition Tuesday.
At approximately 7 p.m., the teen was walking along Highway 10 near the 1200 block of West Euless Boulevard when a dark-colored Chevrolet or GMC pickup truck struck her and fled the scene, according to the Euless Police Department Facebook account. The girl was critically injured and transported to a local hospital.
Police said they identified the victim, and on Sunday were in contact with a person of interest, but did not provide additional information.
Her family, through a GoFundMe campaign, said the 13-year-old girl, Alyssa, remains in critical condition with a “broken pelvis, clavicle, fractured ear, damage to her spleen, bleeding in the head, and ligament damage to her neck preventing neurons from her brain to properly give commands to her body when spoken to.”
“At this time she is unable to respond to commands. She cannot open her eyes, squeeze hands, nor move fingers or thumbs on command,” the GoFundMe, organized by Stacy Stice, read. “The extent of any potential brain injury is still unknown at this time. They are currently putting in an IV pick line, which is inserted through her arm and sits directly above her heart to allow them to administer medication as quickly and effectively as possible. This will help prevent them from pricking her many times with different IVs and allows for multiple lines for medication that do not mix well in the same line.”
In an update Monday night, family said the teen hadn’t made any progress yet, but they were expecting within the next day or two for swelling and pressure to reduce in her brain and allow her to provide some type of response.
“Hoping that the internal bleeding stops. Otherwise, Alyssa will need surgery to remove her spleen,” Duane Stice, Alyssa’s father, wrote. “Again, another wait and see how things progress this week. The spleen is generally a little slow to heal itself at the level she was injured.”
The 13-year-old’s family requested prayers, “as she is still going through a very difficult battle for her immediate health.”
“Despite not yet knowing the full extent of the injuries to Alyssa’s brain and emotional state, we do know she will have many months of rehabilitation ahead of her. More will be known over the next few days,” the fundraising campaign said.
The GoFundMe, within 21 hours of being set up, had raised nearly $4,500 to go toward the teen’s medical bills and family’s “lost wages” as they “stay near her bedside to care for and support her.”
“Alyssa is part of a large and loving family. She is a daughter, stepdaughter, sister, stepsister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and friend and her accident has affected many people who love her dearly,” the GoFundMe said. “Alyssa and her family will need help making it through this indescribably difficult time. We thank everyone for your support and prayers.”
