A male driver was killed and a child was hospitalized after the driver struck a building with a pickup truck Saturday evening in Mansfield.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Mansfield police responded to a major crash in the 1700 block of U.S. 287 Frontage Road.

When officers arrived, they found that a pickup truck had left the roadway and struck a building, ending up partially inside the structure, according to a Mansfield police press release.

Officers saw fire coming from underneath the vehicle and noticed there were two people inside the truck, an adult male and a child.

The Mansfield Fire Department extinguished the fire, and both occupants were removed from the vehicle and transported to local hospitals.

The adult man was pronounced deceased at the hospital. He was identified as Tommy Tabor, 65, of Mansfield, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The child is expected to survive, according to the release.

Investigators believe Tabor suffered a medical episode and lost control on the service road before driving over the curb and striking the building on the east side of the roadway.

The crash remains under investigation.
