Members of the Colleyville Ministerial Alliance met Thursday over prayer and to emphasize the importance of healing after the hostage standoff at Congregation Beth Israel.

The ministerial alliance and the city are forming a committee that will meet soon to plan a community-wide healing event at the Colleyville Center, according to a news release.

Mayor Richard Newton said during his prayer when the meeting began: “Each of you experienced the events on Saturday at Congregation Beth Israel in your own way. Some of you may have been saddened, some may have felt angry, and of course we were all concerned for the individuals taken hostage,” Newton stated. “We are thankful for answered prayers and a successful outcome, with all hostages able to return home unharmed,”he said.

The Ministerial Alliance welcomes all houses of worship, assistant city manager Adrienne Lothery Said. The purpose of the Colleyville Ministerial Alliance is to promote unity and to bring the community together.

The group also talked about lessons learned and steps to be as “prepared as possible,” including access to building plans and security information.

Pastor Lanre Sobo of the Glory House said, “When opportunity knocks, it is too late to prepare.”

The group also discussed how the relationships formed over the past five years helped facilitate quick action on Saturday.
