One person killed after wreck ignites major truck fire on Northeast Loop 820 toll road
Authorities closed down a Tarrant County highway Wednesday after a major accident ignited a large truck fire on the roadway, killing at least one person and injuring another, North Richland Hills police said.
Police said one of the drivers was found dead at the scene and the other was still in critical condition as of 5:15 p.m.
The main Northeast Loop 820 lanes were closed for two hours because of the crash in North Richland Hills. The express lanes were closed longer as police investigated the accident. Police said there was no estimation as to how long cleanup in the express lanes would take.
The wreck was reported just after 7 a.m. Wednesday in a westbound lane of the Northeast Loop 820 toll road near Rufe Snow Drive. The crash involved a tanker truck and a garbage truck.
North Richland Hills police had not released any details on the crash.
One person was severely burned in the accident, authorities said, and that person was taken to a hospital by a helicopter ambulance. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the driver who died at the scene after next of kin have been notified.
