The drive through Colleyville will become even more scenic with this roadway makeover
For folks driving down Texas Highway 26 in Colleyville — and there are many — the route is about to become more scenic as city officials have approved a makeover for that part of the city.
The project includes furnishing and installing site and landscape improvements to Colleyville Boulevard from John McCain Road to approximately Brown Trail, generally consisting of, but not limited to, the following:
▪ Numerous hardscape (man-made features) improvements, including the median, stone slab, seeded concrete, and stone block walls.
▪ Median landscape improvements, including soil preparation and amendments, ground cover, seasonal color, perennials, shrubs and larger canopy trees.
▪ Parkway landscape improvements, including ornamental trees.
▪ Tree uplighting (lighting concentrated in an upward direction) and electrical convenience outlets.
▪ An irrigation system.
“The SH26 beautification project is an exciting project that the whole community will benefit from,” Assistant City Manager Adrienne Lothery said. “It provides for significant improvements to Colleyville’s primary commercial corridor that are reflective of the high quality standards Colleyville is known for.”
Lothery said city officials do not anticipate the COVID-19 pandemic to impact the progress and completion of the project. Work will get underway later this summer and will be complete in the spring of 2021 to complete, she said.
The not-to-exceed contract amount awarded to The Fain Group, Inc. for the project was approximately $5.75 million, Lothery said. She also expressed excitement that the deal includes a couple years of maintenance.
“The consultants’ projected budget was $5,814,331, and did not include any ongoing maintenance. This was great news,” she said. “We were able to come in under budget for the construction work and get two years of maintenance included in the contract — all for less than the consultants’ budget projection for just the construction work.”
Lothery said traffic will continue on SH26 during construction with limited lane closures, based on where the work is being performed.
