Once a church and funeral home, boutique hotel could help revitalize Old Town Keller
It has housed churches and most recently a funeral home.
But this one-story building will next make history as Keller’s first boutique hotel.
The Harmonson Boutique Hotel will open in the city’s Old Town area at 137 Hill St. The project, which does not have an estimated completion date amid the coronavirus pandemic, is expected to cost about $1.8 million, officials say.
“We put a lot of energy into working with the owner and realtor for this space to find something that would add something new and vibrant to Old Town, and I’m thrilled with the result,” Keller Mayor Pat McGrail said. “This project is exactly the sort of redevelopment I like to see in this district, and it’s another step in the right direction in Old Town’s revitalization.”
Property owner Sue Salstrand said the building was originally the first Church of Christ in Keller, and that various other churches have owned and/or used the building. Most recently it was owned and used by Lucas Funeral Home, and it has been empty since the funeral home relocated in 2016.
Salstrand, formerly Harmonson, said plans are for 10 high-end suites/luxury bedrooms with a public wine bar. The one-story hotel will be around 6,000 square feet.
The Harmonson family has been a part of Keller history since the 1930s, and a part of Texas history since the 1840s. A synopsis of the project states the vision is to have 10 unique suites that cater to families, business travelers, stay vacationers or event attenders.
The building they hope to save and restore has served the Keller community in various ways since the 1950s. Along with the wine bar in the hotel lounge, there will be patio seating, and guests will have access to a backyard pool and continental kitchen. Modern art-deco decor will be infused throughout the hotel.
“As long-term residents of Keller we are extremely excited about this opportunity and plan to be an active part of Old Town Keller for years to come,” Salstrand said.
