7-year-old stabbed to death in Fort Worth suburb; 20-year-old brother arrested in case
A 7-year-old Haltom City boy was stabbed multiple times at his home and later died at a local hospital, while police arrested his brother, Haltom City police said Sunday.
Detectives haven’t determined a motive for the fatal stabbing.
Isidro Brito, 20, was arrested a few blocks from his family’s home after the Saturday night stabbing, Haltom City police said.
“Police have been out to that location, and he was living there,” said Haltom City Detective Matt Sillane in a telephone interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, referring to the suspect and the Haltom City home where the stabbing occurred.
The victim has been identified as Jacob Brito, 7, of Haltom City, according to officials with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. A ruling on his death is pending.
Haltom City police responded to the stabbing call about 9:45 p.m. Saturday in a home in the 4900 block of Orien Street, just a few blocks from the Haltom City Police Department building.
When they arrived, patrol officers found Jacob Brito with multiple stab wounds and officers began immediate first-aid. The boy was taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, where he later died.
Haltom City police located and arrested Isidro Brito at Katrine Street and Katrine Court. He had an apparently self-inflicted wound to his upper body, authorities said.
The 20-year-old was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated, and then taken to jail.
Isidro Brito was in the Tarrant County Jail on Sunday in lieu of $250,000 bond.
Because of the age of the victim, Isidro Brito faces a charge of capital murder, Haltom City police said.
Isidro Brito was scheduled to appear for a virtual hearing on Sept. 29 on a previous assault with bodily injury charge involving a family member, according to Tarrant County criminal court records. The case was in County Criminal Court No. 5.
The assault offense occurred on May 18, 2019, at the Haltom City home where the fatal stabbing occurred.
Information on the alleged victim in the assault case was not available on Sunday.
