High school student killed after his truck veered into creek embankment near Fort Worth
A Shannon High School student was killed Tuesday afternoon when he lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a creek, Haltom City police said.
The student was identified as Colby Etheredge, 17, of Richland Hills, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website on Wednesday. A ruling on his death is pending an autopsy.
Etheredge died from his injuries at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.
A Birdville school district official confirmed Wednesday that Etheredge was a student at Shannon High School, an alternative high school in the district.
Haltom City police responded to the crash about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 6800 block of Texas 121 just off the northbound service road.
When they arrived, officers observed a white 2003 Chevrolet Silverado had come to rest on an embankment of Big Fossil Creek. Etheredge was the only person in the vehicle.
Haltom City police noted major front end damage, but they did not release any information on what caused the accident.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The fatal crash remained under investigation on Wednesday.
