A woman was shot and wounded Sunday morning as she walked to her vehicle in an apartment complex parking lot on Bedford Road, police said.

A woman leaving for work Sunday morning was shot by an unknown gunman, police said.

A search for the suspect continued Sunday.

The woman was taken to a local hospital where she was treated and released.

Police responded to the shooting call about 4:45 a.m. at the Copper Hill Apartments in the 3000 block of Bedford Road.

The woman told police she was walking to her vehicle in the complex parking lot when a white man approached her, pointing a gun at her.

At some point, the gunman opened fire. The woman told police she heard three gunshots, but she believes she was hit with the first shot. She suffered a gunshot wound to her left pelvic area.

The gunman fled without taking anything from her.

The woman believes she was the target of the gunman because she usually leaves for work at that time, police said.

The suspect is described as about 5-feet-8 to 5-feet-10, and he wore a black hooded sweatshirt and a “beanie hat.”

Police did not release any other information.
