Southlake police troll commuting rubberneckers with ‘glorious’ video. Yes, we have it

Irritated that his commute down Texas 114 was taking so long Thursday morning, Southlake Department of Public Safety spokesman Brad Uptmore did what so many people would do — he took to social media to complain.

“Fair citizens, there’s a stalled white truck parked in the exit median eastbound at the Dove (Road) exit,” Uptmore posted to the DPS Facebook page.

“This may seem crazy, but you do not (we repeat DO NOT) have to brake, slow down, peer over, and ogle it. It’s just a truck and there’s nothing special about it ... We’ll even go get you a picture of it so you can stare at it later when you’re at work instead while driving.”

“I was driving in and it was just madness,” Uptmore said later, in a telephone interview.

He said the truck had a flat front tire and will “be there for a while” if anyone wants to go see it in person.

He also did even better than his promise to post a picture. Instead recording “30 glorious seconds” of video, complete with a reference to the movie “Footloose” — the chorus of the song “Almost Paradise” soars as the camera sweeps lovingly over the stalled pickup.

“That was $1.29 on iTunes well spent,” Uptmore said.

In a Twitter update, Uptmore wrote, “Here is 30 glorious seconds complete with soundtrack for you to watch safely in your office instead of being a looky-loo on the freeway. DRIVE SAFE FAIR CITIZENS.”

Southlake police are known for their humorous Facebook account featuring videos of their response to the lip-sync challenge and their ode to an orange traffic cone.
