A man was killed after he lost control and his Corvette went airborne in Grapevine

A car hit a barrier wall, flew over a median and landed in oncoming traffic on Texas 121 in Grapevine, killing driver Forrest Tennant, 77, on Monday afternoon, shutting down traffic on the highway for an hour.

The accident occurred about 3 p.m. near the southbound exit ramp where Texas 360 and Texas 121 meet, Grapevine police reported.

Witnesses told police that the driver of a red Corvette traveling north on 121 tried to merge into another lane and lost control. The Corvette swerved across the highway before striking a barrier wall and going airborne.

The car flew over the median and landed in the oncoming southbound lanes of 121. Police said Tennant was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said debris from the vehicle hit two other cars but nobody else was hurt.

Officers shut down traffic at 121 and William D. Tate for about an hour in both directions, as well as traffic on northbound 360.

The initial investigation showed that speed appeared to be a factor in the crash.
