She was driving and talking on the phone with her husband. That may be why she died

A Grand Prairie woman died Saturday night, four days after being involved in a traffic collision during which she was talking on her cellphone, police say.

Adriana Medina-Munoz, 25, was driving east on Warrior Trail when she ran a red light at the intersection of Texas 161 and was struck on the passenger side of her 2009 Volkswagen Beetle by a 1977 Chevrolet van. The impact caused her car to also collide with a 2015 Volkswagen Passat that was stopped in the westbound lane of Warrior Trail.

The accident happened shortly after 5 p.m. on Feb. 13.

"We believe she was on the phone with her husband at the time this happened," said Grand Prairie police Sgt. Eric Hansen. "We don't know if she was on a hands-free device or on a hand-held phone, but that is certainly a situation where you can get distracted."

Medina-Munoz was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma to the head at 9:39 p.m. Saturday at Medical City Arlington hospital.

The occupants of the van, a 27-year-old man and an 8-year-old boy, along with the driver of the Passat, a 50-year-old woman, were taken to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and have been released.
