One person killed after car, cement truck crash in Alvarado early Thursday

One person was killed after a crash on I-35W in Alvarado early Thursday, police said.

Alvarado police responded to the crash on I-35W near County Road 604 shortly before 4:30 a.m., police told Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV.

Investigators determined that a sedan was speeding north when it collided with the rear of a cement truck, police said.

The driver of the sedan, who was alone, was taken to a hospital and died there, according to police.

Police said the driver of the cement truck stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The person who died will be identified by the Tarrant County Medical examiner’s office once next of kin have been notified.

“The Alvarado Police Department extends its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time, and thanks the responding agencies for their professionalism and assistance,” police said.

The investigation is ongoing, according to police.

All northbound lanes of Interstate 35 West were shut down at County Road 604 near Alvarado after the fatal crash.
