The motorcyclist who was killed in a hit-and-run on Saturday, Jan. 17 was the owner of a restaurant and the father of four children, according to a GoFundMe page for his family.

Shane Geary, 54, was riding his motorcycle that morning because his truck was being repaired, his wife, Mindy, wrote.

Geary was riding in the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 West before East Belknap Street at about 2:45 a.m. when he was rear-ended by a pickup truck, thrown from his bike, and struck by another vehicle, police said.

The pickup truck, a late 1990s to early 2000s Chevrolet single cab with a charcoal gray or primer black color, fled the scene, officials said.

At the time of his death, Geary and his wife were moving out of their home of eight years, Mindy Geary wrote. The couple were also dealing with debts after closing their restaurant, Fred’s Downtown Philly, during the COVID pandemic.

“One thing about Shane was that his friend circle was huge,” Mindy Geary wrote. “He had a heart of gold for others. On the day before he left home, he paid for the prescription of a complete stranger at the Walmart pharmacy who didn’t have enough money while he was picking up our daughter’s medication.”

Geary was a fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team and enjoyed collecting coins and reading, according to the GoFundMe.

The page has raised $2,100 of its $6,500 goal as of Friday night.

The FWPD Traffic Investigation Unit is seeking help to identify the driver of the pickup. Anyone with information can contact a detective at 817-392-4869.
