Traveling to the rodeo this weekend? This stretch of I-30 will be shut down
Those who commute from Fort Worth to Dallas or vice versa will experience an influx of traffic this weekend due to downtown Dallas construction, according to a news release from TxDOT.
Beginning on Friday, all west and eastbound lanes for chunks of Interstate 30 will be closed. And also, off-ramp projects have closed multiple downtown Dallas roads for good until construction wraps up in 2028.
All this construction is a part of the grander I-30 Canyon corridor improvement project. This nearly $900 million project is expected to wrap up by 2028, adding more lanes and making the freeway safer.
So for those who may be traveling into Fort Worth for the stock show and rodeo, or if you’re commuting to weekend work, brace yourselves for some extra traffic. Here’s what we know about the road closures.
Lane closures on I-30 in Dallas-Fort Worth
From Friday, Jan. 16 at 10 p.m. until Monday, Jan. 19 at 5 a.m., all eastbound and westbound lanes of I-30 will be closed between I-35E and the I-45/U.S. 75 interchange, according to a news release from TxDOT.
The detour will be placed at Spur 366 Woodall Roger Freeway and IH 35E.
How to navigate I-30 traffic
TxDOT suggests commuters plan extra travel time or avoid the affected area altogether.
Commuters can also try to shift their hours to avoid rush times.
Other Dallas lane closures
Dallas will close these roads for a few years, to accommodate the Canyon Corridor construction until 2028.
Here’s where to avoid:
- All lanes of Cesar Chavez Boulevard were closed and detoured at I-30 on Monday, January 12.
- All lanes of Cadiz Street were closed and detoured at I-30 on Tuesday, January 13. This one is expected to open earlier than 2028.
- All lanes of Akard Street were closed and detoured at I-30 on Tuesday, January 13.
- Good Latimer Expressway narrowed to one lane in each direction on Tuesday, January 13.
