WATCH: North Texas police officers rescue man trapped inside burning car
A man trapped in a burning car was recently rescued by two North Texas police officers, the Blue Mound Police Department said in a news release.
Blue Mound police officers were dispatched to a call for service about 5 a.m. Oct. 29, after a car was reported to have caught fire with the man trapped inside at Glenn Drive and Waggoman Road, police said.
When officers arrived, they found the car on fire with a single occupant still inside who was trying to break out the rear window, police said.
Officer Luis Aguilar and Officer Bryant Ochoa are seen in body-camera video running toward a burning silver Nissan Versa. Aguilar can be seen working to break the rear passenger-side window, while Ochoa attempted to break the rear window.
The rear passenger-side window broke first, and Aguilar pulled the man safely from the burning car, police said.
After the man was rescued, Aguilar grabbed a fire extinguisher from the patrol vehicle to try to put out the flames, while Ochoa stayed with the man. “Despite their efforts, the vehicle became fully engulfed within minutes,” police said.
Blue Mound Fire Chief Jason Wood and members of the Saginaw Fire Department arrived shortly afterward and successfully contained the fire, police said.
“Based on the severity of the fire and the rapid escalation, it is clear the outcome could have been far more tragic without the quick, decisive actions of our officers,” police said in the release on Wednesday, Nov. 19. “The Blue Mound Police Department will be recommending Life-Saving Awards for both Officer Aguilar and Officer Ochoa at this month’s City Council meeting. “
