Johnson County sheriff’s deputies fatally shot a man early Monday while responding to a disturbance call in an unincorporated area of the county near Joshua, the Sheriff’s Office said.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they tried to talk with the man, who was armed with a knife, the Sheriff’s Office said. Investigators have not released details of what happened leading up to the shooting.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The identity of the man will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, which will perform an autopsy.

According to the Sheriff’s Office statement, the scene was secured and handed over to the Texas Rangers, who have taken over the investigation.

“This is a tragic event, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the individual involved, as well as with the deputies affected by this incident,” the release said.
